My dad’s side hustle success story…

Lucky Lou’s Gourmet Rice Pudding was born over 25 years ago at my dad’s luncheonette, Maria and Lou’s. What began as a line item on his menu, became customer’s most popular request.

It wasn’t until he sold the luncheonette, and moved into another industry, that he discovered how good his rice pudding was. Customers kept calling him for orders! Reluctant to say no, he made rice pudding to order before and after his full-time job.

A few years ago, I helped him establish the business. His gourmet rice pudding is now sold at over 100 locations in NY.

Three lessons I learned from my dad:

  • Treat people well, help those that need it (even if they don’t know it)
  • Follow your dreams, they can come true
  • Love what you do, and you’ll never work a day in your life

And…it’s never to late to start something new.
