Does anyone have original ideas?
I’m not sure. It’s rare I across a truly unique idea that hasn’t been published or, in some cases, conceived.
For example, while scrolling through my LinkedIn feed I saw a video on how to export all my connections.
Including their name, title, company, email address and the date I connected with them.
I thought, is there a way to email people I connect with each day? Some days there’s dozens, sending one-by-one wouldn’t be feasible.
I didn’t want to use an app like MailChimp because I wasn’t adding them to a newsletter.
I searched and found instructions on how to send emails using Gmail.
It required importing into Google Sheets first.
Then I found an app to connect Google Sheets with Gmail to automate sending.
All I did was put together existing, complicated solutions and made it less complicated.
Steve Jobs once said “Creativity is just connecting things.”
Sensemaking is connecting existing ideas to create new ideas.
“In order for us to truly create and contribute to the world, we have to be able to connect countless dots, to cross-pollinate ideas from a wealth of disciplines, to combine and recombine these pieces and build new castles.” – Maria Popova
How sharp are your sensemaking skills?
