I just saved $700…

For one of the projects I’m working on, I had to drive cross country to visit seven national parks. I flew out to NY and bought a car there to drive back. Along the way, I was recording fragrance profiles of each park and understanding the history. When I got back to California, I was expecting to pay $1k for registration and taxes on the car. Fortunately, the DMV clerk let me in on a policy where you don’t pay tax for purchases made through a family member.

I’m probably one of the few to say this: thanks DMV, you made my day!

P.S. AAA is a convenient way to deal with car registrations, bypassing the packed DMV office. The line to get a ticket to wait in line at DMV was an hour and twenty mins long.
